Healthy choices

Good nutrition combined with physical activity is the best recipe for leading a healthy lifestyle.

This module holistically examines dietary guidelines, food advertising and exercise.

Objectives

By the end of this module, your students will:

  • have a better understanding of what and why we eat certain types of food
  • understand the importance of exercising
  • participate in a shopping experience and identify certain food products.

Learning outcomes

  • Identify and understand healthy and unhealthy food
  • Identify own exercise patterns and importance of exercise
  • Understand food as a source of fuel
  • Identify and understand the Australian food group guidelines
  • Understand and classify food groups and food labels
  • Participate in a shopping experience

The kind of SIL support you receive will be different depending on your individual needs, but can include:

  • Moving into your own home for the first time
  • Learning to live in your own home
  • Household tasks like:
    • Cleaning, laundry and looking after your home
    • Nutrition, cooking and healthy eating
  • Personal care, such as showering, dressing and getting ready for the day
  • Travelling to and from appointments
  • Assistance with taking medication
  • Enabling you to start a hobby
  • Connecting with friends in the community
  • Learning to catch public transport

Our SIL services are focused on making sure we support you to achieve what you want, and be part of an inclusive community.

Break out of normality and add something new into your life with our Day Programs. The individualised programs allow you to enjoy a broad range of purposeful, recreational and leisure activities. Each Day Program participant has a service plan individually cultivated to meet their specific needs.
